Grote schoonheidsspender
“But how does May do it?” That's a question we casually throw around the editorial office once a day. When she walks in looking über-stylish, her skirt swaying nonchalantly back and forth and with an enviable hairstyle. Last week she had a fever of 39 degrees. Well, I've never seen anyone look so flawless while being sick. But seriously.
I'm going to reveal her secret. May invests in her good looks (and okay, okay, her genes play a big part too). A chipped nail polish? She won't leave without running the brush over her nails. A tired hairstyle? The app with Leco gets fired up. Her brows? She goes to the therapist for that (but really, read here for a moment). I myself tend to let things go over time, and that ends up costing me just as much. For a frequent touch-up at the hairdresser or brow bar, you pay less than when you have to get the whole thing reshaped and polished again.
And you, how much do you spend at the hairdresser or on manicures? If I may ask, of course, because I'm always very curious about how much a woman spends on her appearance. That's why I'm going to check in with your editors to gauge the average score in euros. And these were the amounts they threw at me.
25 – 150 for beautiful locks
Had a haircut? That fluctuates between twenty-five euros for a small trim to one hundred fifty for color, the blow-dry, and the scissors. I've been told there are artists who will do your hair for three hundred euros, the intensity.
25 – 50 with hands and feet
Your hands are your business card. I paint my nails like it's a dear pleasure, but many ladies come in for a manicure (and in summer also for a pedicure). If you go to a decent salon, this will easily cost you fifty euros per treatment, and in summer, that's double.
Not blessed with long eyelashes? That can be solved with a lash magician.
60 for the Bambi
Not blessed with long eyelashes? That can be solved with a lash magician. For a mere forty-five euros every three weeks, you flutter and wave them around.
25 – 50 smear more
Okay, and then you have the crème de la crème to be divided into the anti-wrinkle zone, your daily dose, and the night cream. Usually, you still get a body lotion at a birthday, so we won't count that.
25 on monthly basis
And to make sure you go out the door a bit dressed up, you finish it off with a compact powder (Clinique is my favorite) and that nice mascara and lipstick. Luckily, they last much longer, so I keep it to one makeup item per month aaaaa twenty-five euros.
25 – 60 in case of extras
Kiek likes to book a masseur (I do too, by the way) and Simone sometimes comes in for some waxing or sugaring. Then you can easily add around fifty for an extra. You don't do that every month, but hey, it happens.
Your calculator has added everything up and rounded down. I understand that you don't indulge in a massage table weekly or visit the hairdresser, but you still end up spending roughly around 150 to 200 euros per month. I haven't even counted the essential basics that need to be added to your wardrobe. I would start budgeting or just take a class, you can do that yourself from now on.
