Short hair is super sexy

A while ago, an email popped into our inbox from reader Willemijn. She mentioned that she has rheumatism, suffers a lot from her joints, and is therefore hastily looking for solutions on how to best relieve her body. The idea: a new haircut. But how can you make short hair sexy? Well Willemijn, I can tell you: it can be. Really sexy, and I'm going to show you how.

In fact, some women look a thousand times better now that they've had the scissors taken to their locks. Just Google Ruby Rose with long hair for fun. Done? Is it just me or does that not look good? Suddenly a pretty boring girl next door. Sylvie Meis with long locks? I found the short hair much more powerful. And I can name a few more. A short haircut gives a fresh, energetic look, a ton of volume, and if it's well cut (see: these are the best hairdressers in the Netherlands) it also gives a boost of self-confidence.

Where to start in the land of short hairstyles? Time for an inspiration round of cool cuts among my favorite friends from Hollywood.

Team quiff

The quiff gives you an instant dose of rock ’n roll and looks great combined with large earrings. The nice thing about having a bit more hair on top of your head is that it can be styled in all directions. Sleek back, messy up, or a sexy wet look. Ruby Rose rocks the quiff like no other (officially in love with this woman and that hair), but Scarlett Johansson also regularly shines on the red carpet with this hairdo. If I didn't have bangs and had a bit more guts...

Team pixie

Popularized in the 1950s by Audrey Hepburn and Twiggy as icons. Characteristic of the pixie cut is short hair at the back and sides of the head and slightly longer on top. It adds edge to your face. The pixie is seen in 2017 in both short and spiky styles as well as in combination with slightly longer locks. The bleached pixie of Zoë Kravitz is, in my opinion, a huge success, but Janelle Monae and Kirsten Stewart also look gorgeous with a short crop.

Team shaved

And Willemijn, if you're thinking: ugh, that annoying hair, I'm completely done with it. The shaved look has actually never gone out of style, just saying. It's important to look at your face shape and otherwise, just get some advice from a hairdresser. Or pop into the local wig shop and check how you look à la Amber Rose. Or what about Jessie J? Or the Dutch makeup artist Celine Bernaerts? Every time I run into her, I think: woman, you are just stunning. And that shaved hair looks incredibly cool on you.
So no more hands in the, uh, hair, okay? (OKAYOKAYFUNNY) and email me at kiki@amayzine.com when the big transformation has taken place? I’d love that.
