Roadtripping with your boy
Hi dear Amayzers. September-I-can-hardly-be-home-month is over and now it's time for the interim report. America was wonderful (check it out here), and as a dessert, my love took me to Portugal last week. Something with eight years together and taking a break just the two of us. The original plan? Six days in Porto. Suddenly we both got a bit itchy. Six days? In one city? I mean in New York okay, but in Porto? Still a bit of a shame in such a cool country. Besides, I had only been there as a child so I had some catching up to do.
Our advantage: only the flight tickets were booked, so we decided a week before departure to completely change the plan, rent a car, and drive spontaneously. Which ultimately led to the coolest trip ever, where we actually only spent a day and a half in Porto. And yes, like on every trip, life lessons were learned. The travel tip of the day? A road trip with your boy (or girl) is da bomb and something everyone should experience at least once if you ask me. And here's why:
1. The first name is Free, the last name is Dom!
Roadtripping equals ultimate freedom. Are you in a place that’s awesome? Then you just stay longer. Is it meh? Then you drive on. Ideal.
2. Nothing is mandatory, everything is allowed
Sunglasses on, lean back, if you really have it good, open the convertible roof and enjoy to the max. Does a bathroom break spontaneously turn into a shopping spree in a cute village? Bonus points. No need to check your watch, CHILLINGS!
3. You see ten times as much
That big city, that small village, that rundown gas station, that beautiful picnic spot… Every hour you have a completely different view and it’s so much more adventurous than a standard city trip. Oh, and driving around is also great for your photos by the way.
4. Something with a man behind the wheel = hot
Your guy as a sunglasses-wearing hot dude with his strong hands on the wheel and smile lines in the sun equals the flame emoji on WhatsApp. Plus: you have your hands free for goooooood photos of the whole thing. And then you switch, of course.
5. It does something to your relationship
You probably only know him from ‘the beach holiday’, but trust me: take him on a spontaneous trip and see what it does to your relationship. I mean, you want to go on an adventure, right? To laugh, discover, experience crazy things and be surprised (like I did here) by the circumstances? And do you want to get to know your partner in a totally different way? I'm telling you: hit the road, Jack. And very quickly.
