The hold music
In the category of irritations, I would also like to elaborate on booking an appointment for a manicure online. Seems simple, but oh dear. Once you've filled in the day, time, and treatment, the problems begin. I actually want not one, but two things, and that already makes it difficult. Well, then I'll just fill in one thing and ask on the spot if I can have more. Then I'm asked which ‘expert’ I want to book. As if I know? Do they seriously think I know all the experts from all the nail salons in my city? No. I assume every girl is capable of applying a perfect polish. It's their profession, and they must all be nice, polite, and well-groomed. Since the system doesn't have an option with a box that says I don't care, I just choose someone. And you guessed it: that person is, of course, not available at the time I filled in. Sigh.
Then I'll just call. Old-fashioned. That way, it will always be fine. Like here. At least, I'm welcomed by a hold music. Ah, hold musics. Meant to make you feel good during this wandering time, but have you ever met someone who was happy with hold music? Especially one of those tunes that plays a verse and then starts over again. And that ten times. That's almost the worst. The irritation reaches its peak when the hold music is interrupted by a voice that keeps telling you that it's busy and you'll be attended to as soon as possible. And that over and over and over again. I got the message. The first time already. Just let me listen to the whole song. Can it be any more annoying? Yes. If the voice speaks in English. We're in the Netherlands, right? Why? Can it get worse? Yes, if that person speaks very poor English.
I want to go back to old-fashioned. Picking up the phone and talking and then making an appointment in a paper agenda where corners of the days that have passed are torn off. That kind of work. Or just give me the old-fashioned engaged tone, I'd prefer that.
