Master Mart
Everything about Mart is beautiful. Mart Visser that is, not Mart Smeets. Although I also find him a charming gentleman (proof), but that aside. Even Mart's dog is couture-worthy. Put Mart on a bike and everything is perfect, visit his salon and it is flawless. His invitations have had the same ‘signature’ for years, as Mart beautifully puts it, but they surprise every time.
Mart also meanders with the times. Thus, alongside couture, a prêt-à-porter collection emerged, allowing you to walk in ‘a’ Mart even with a smaller budget. And because Mart loves to create watercolors, he set up a studio where he paints. Everything there is also perfect as it should be.
The brand Mart deserves to be celebrated. You earn that after 50 couture collections and 25 years in the highest echelon of your profession. But his commercial eye and entrepreneurial spirit also deserve praise. That is why there is an exhibition, beyond context, where everything comes together: his art, sculptures, couture, and prêt-à-porter. With a bit of luck, you might encounter the maestro himself and he will tell you a fragrant anecdote, for he is also a master in that. And in laughing until you have a stomach ache. Go and enjoy, it can still be until November 19.
