My new icon

Caroline de Maigret in 7 style lessons

Maybe it's cut the bangs., maybe it's this the Chanel party where I found her, by light years, the best dressed woman of the party. Caroline de Maigret is my new style icon and this is what you, or at least I, can learn from her.

1. The bangs

I know I used to be against team bangs, but I’m on board now. It makes you look younger (right?) and you need less makeup because you don’t easily have a bare-faced look. Right? Right?

2. The pantsuit

Instantly sexy as long as it's low-cut and high-heeled. And pair it with a nice bag. From Chanel or something.

3. Flat shoes are okay, olé, olé

Admittedly, it helps if you have that slender figure of Caroline, and it’s easy to talk for a Parisienne who undoubtedly smokes seven strong Gauloises a day, strolls at least 15,000 steps a day through Paris, and is also a descendant of top athletes. But those masculine shoes just look great with her skinnies. And they are easy on the metro. By the way, you always have to look as if you’re gazing at a setting sun in the distance. Always. Also a must from Maigret.

4. High trousers

At least, high waists and wide legs. Voilà. Charm.

5. Big coats

That makes you look slim. Preferably down to the ground, one you can live in. Preferably from Chanel. And then nice chunky boots underneath.

6. Little makeup

Because the older you get, the less it lifts you up. A bit of foundation that you can’t see, a bit of Becca against any bags, a cautious blush, some eyebrow gel, and a lick of mascara. And a lot of dry shampoo.

7. Choose a crazy pair of pants

With a wide black and white stripe or a Jackson Pollock-ish print with splatters. If you keep the rest understated French, you can’t go wrong.

And keep gazing at the horizon, okay? Or you might fall over.
