Never roaring at customs again
(This make-up you can and cannot take in your hand luggage)
Panic at the baggage claim. I also have a little sweat mustache, because I'm actually a bit late. To the left, two sighing girls. “Can you make an exception? I really forgot it.” The man shakes his head. I see the luxury bottle of makeup remover unceremoniously flying into the trash. Steam coming out of the girl's ears. “At least make someone else happy with it,” she growls.
I already find saying goodbye to my bottle of water sad at customs, let alone an expensive Chanel bottle. Crying. So it seemed time for a checklist. Once and for all: these are the cosmetics you can and especially CANNOT take with you on the plane:
This is ALLOWED:
- Non-liquid products like blush, eyeshadow, face powder, and bronzer.
- Liquid products like foundation, cream, and lip balm in a transparent container of max 100 milliliters. In total, you can take a maximum of 1 liter of liquid.
- Perfumes smaller than 100 milliliters. And if the best man/woman is really nagging, this must officially fit in your transparent bag as well (my tip: just take a few testers with you on your trip, saves a lot of weight and space in your bag).
- Toothpaste, makeup remover, lotion, face spray, mouth spray, body lotion, disinfectant gel, shampoo, conditioner, gel, wax; practically everything you need in terms of care as long as it is no more than 100 milliliters (by the way, these are always all the products I take in my checked baggage, but if you are traveling with only hand luggage no worries).
This is NOT allowed:
- Aerosols with hairspray and deodorant are officially not allowed due to pressure. If you still want to take deodorant, go for a stick.
- Pretty much everything from your beauty bag that is even slightly sharp. By the way, not prohibited by all airlines, but it can be confiscated, so you know. Think of a metal file, blade, tweezers, scissors, or nail clippers.
- A container larger than 100 milliliters. And note: even if there is only a small layer left in that 125 milliliter sunscreen, it’s about the size of the container, not the actual content. If you still want to take shampoo, etc. in your hand luggage, divide it into small bottles (you can buy those at Kruidvat, for example).
Extra:
- Keep in mind that the rules also apply for the return trip.
- Products you buy AFTER customs can be larger than 100 ml. So if your shampoo runs out, you can also just buy a large bottle at the airport and take it with you.
- A little tip from my side for the lovebirds: you can also steal half the contents of your loved one's transparent bag. Just saying.
Memory refreshed again? Good. And now never give those customs officers the chance to take your beauty stash away, okay? If you really want to get rid of something, you can just call me.
