Everything in New York, and especially here in Williamsburg, has to be healthy. Everything has to be green. Everything has to be non-GMO. Everything has to come from the Farmers Market. Everything must not be injected or sprayed with anything. Ideally, everything should actually be vegan. It's so vegan and green here that I'm starting to feel a bit crow-like. And no, I'm not sure if that's an official word, but I believe you all know me well enough by now to understand what I mean. Anyway, the fence came crashing down with all that straight-from-the-garden trend a few days ago. At my ‘office’ somewhere on Wythe Avenue (according to the internet where I sit behind my laptop all day), I ordered an avocado toast. Delicious, normally. But now, with the third bite, my avocado toast seemed to have been picked up from the sandbox. The glaze crunched on my molars, and the waitress looked at me in surprise when I told her about this problem with my sandwich. You would expect a thousand apologies in true American style. But in Vegan Ville, this is perfectly normal. I mean, it all comes fresh from the garden, so this can happen, right? “Just chew through it” was the message. That's how vegan Vegan Ville is. Luckily, we had lunch again this weekend in Manhattan. Just with a heavy non-organic mimosa in a heavily over-the-top lunch spot where everyone works on their overly sugary pancakes while wearing sunglasses.

And don't get me wrong, I'm totally on board with the less meat and more organic food movement, but sand on my sandwich is just a bit too organic for me. In the coffee shop that followed after the sandbox, we encountered a man with his head in the plants. In the coffee shop after that, everyone was barefoot reading books in yoga pants. And slowly, the realization sinks in that they all think I'm just as crazy as I think they are. Because, in fact, I'm just a bit too Manhattan for Williamsburg...

Fortunately, everything is allowed in New York. So being Manhattan in Brooklyn doesn't matter either. I also had lunch at Witlof, with a throne for our Blue. Because yes, she is of course the fanciest of us all.

“You better show love when it’s all real.” Wisdom from Brooklyn to end with. Look, that's something this side of the river has. Until next week!
