Recycle that peel part 2

When I'm cleaning the onions in the evening and scooping the pumpkin seeds out of the oranje mess, I sometimes wonder how much waste we collect weekly. Earlier, I told you that you can perfectly use onion peels to make broth, but did you know there are many more kitchen hacks that you probably didn't know about? Time for a lesson in recycling part 2.

Mozzarella/feta

The liquid from a package of cheese that you normally pour straight down the sink can be used very well. The liquid from mozzarella has a subtle, creamy flavor that gives your rice or pasta a delicious creamy taste while cooking. If you want something saltier, use the liquid that comes from the block of feta. Just leave the salt mill aside.

Wine

A sip of wine left over from last night? Probably won't happen quickly, but let's say. With that leftover, you can make the tastiest meat marinade. Add two cloves of garlic, a splash of Worcestershire sauce, a teaspoon of horseradish, and a tablespoon of maple syrup, and let your meat marinate for a few hours. It can also be used in pasta sauce or as a base for your vinaigrette.

Cherry pits

The season may be over, but write this down in your notebook for next year. The pits of cherries are super handy for flavoring your whipped cream. Throw a handful into a bowl of cream and let it steep overnight. The next day, whip the cream and optionally add a splash of maple syrup. It works great over a scoop of ice cream or over those warm cherries.

Cucumber

Cucumber peels? Not in the trash, girlfriend. Put 100 grams of cream cheese with a tablespoon of mustard, a handful of spring onions, and cucumber peels in a blender. Delicious on a cracker or a slice of crispy sourdough bread.

Parmesan rind

The rind of this cheese of cheeses is worth its weight in gold. Cook the piece in your soup for a spicy deep flavor or let the rind infuse in a bottle of olive oil.

Orange peel

Fill a bottle with vinegar and the remnants of your vitamin C bomb, and you brew your own cleaning agent that smells nice and is also good for the environment.
