Spicy food for pussies
Do you ever have the urge to stir one pepper too many into your curry ? Was that spoonful of sambal just a bit too much of the good stuff over your plate of noodles? Then you can do two things. Either you reach for a glass of water and make it a thousand times worse, or you grab one of these lifesavers. For everyone who can't handle spicy food, you'll never be in flames again thanks to these tips.
Carbs
The starch in bread and rice contains long glucose chains that are perfect for making that burning sensation disappear.
Prawn crackers
This tasty snack contains not only a lot of carbs but also glucose and fat, which make the misery melt away like snow in the sun. So finishing that bag does have its advantages.
Dairy
Drinking a glass of milk or eating a pot of yogurt is also a good idea. Dairy contains casein, a substance that binds easily to the fatty substance of capsaicin, causing the burning sensation to quickly disappear. Some researchers even claim that yogurt works preventively. Dairy provides a protective layer in your mouth so that sharp spices cannot attach themselves.
Gin
Now I can imagine that you wouldn't sit down at the table with company with a cup of milk. Why not pour a gin and tonic if that provides the necessary extinguishing? Capsaicin dissolves in alcohol in a strong glass. So unfortunately guys, that beer does very little...
You also have that on the plane, but often you get that very strong, almost black tea. I don't find that very pleasant. Bring your own bags and ask for some hot water. Oh well, you have to make a bit of a party out of it, right?
Just like I'm going alcohol-free this month? Hot drinks extinguish much better than an ice-cold glass. So get a thermos ready.
