The candy of the fashion month
Kaia Gerber
If your mother is named Cindy Crawford, your father also had a modeling career before becoming a businessman, and you were photographed for Vogue US by Patrick Demarchelier as a toddler, then it's not very strange that the catwalk whispers to you. Kaia Gerber, daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, is the candy of the catwalk. On Thursday, she was asked by designer Raf Simons (who once this recruited Dutch models for his campaign) to walk in his Calvin Klein show. By the way, that show was heavily criticized by Vogue, harshly and, in my humble opinion, unjustly, but that's beside the point. And last night, our candy of the fashion month opened the show of Alexander Wang in New York.
A few Kaia facts. She just turned 16, has an older brother whom she congratulated on Instagram a few months ago with the text ‘happy 18th, weirdo’, just got her driver's license, and is the cherished daughter of Cindy Crawford and ‘entertainment businessman’ Rande Gerber. Cindy (I looked it up) is now 51 and has been happily married to Rande for almost twenty years. At least, that's how it looks. They were still looking incredibly good at the Tom Ford show here in New York on Thursday.
You might know Kaia as the face of Daisy by Marc Jacobs, which, if you ask me, couldn't have been chosen better. This girl is Daisy. For her birthday, Marc Jacobs crafted her name in daisies, now that's a sweet sixteen. Furthermore, Kaia is team dog; wherever she can, she grabs one and cuddles it until it agrees to an insta-ussie. Kaia has 1.6 million followers on Instagram, is followed by Kendall Jenner and Naomi Campbell, and seems to be the favorite of fellow models. Gigi Hadid (you know, the woman I learned this from) comments under an Instagram post with the text ‘so proud of you’, and in another photo, we see Karlie Kloss lifting little Kaia backstage as if she is the bride being carried over the threshold of the house.
That Kaia, she's a keeper. And I think that's a really good idea.
