The four different types of Netflix cheaters
And 3 tips to not get caught
Guilty, I recently cheated on Netflix. In fact, I actually got caught. At first, I thought I could just admit that I was one episode ahead, but secretly it was actually many more. You get this when you have extreme trouble with series FOMO. And also consciously the reason that I hadn’t arranged to watch season two of Stranger Things with anyone, because that had to be binged right after the release. Here you can read even more about this new form of cheating and luckily I’m not the only one.
By the way, there are four different types of Netflix cheaters:
The Serial Cheater
These are the couples where one of the two has gone ahead and watched a series at least four or more times without the partner. This happens in about 30% of the ‘streaming couples’, of which 11% even does it secretly in another room of the house. Oh yes, and only 3 out of 10 apologize for the ‘cheating’.
The Long Distance Cheater
19% of the couples who follow a series together cheat while one of the two is abroad. And of those long-distance cheaters, 29% also admits it to their partner.
The Sleepless Cheater
Ha, 25% cheats while their partner has already fallen asleep. Guess who participates in this the most? The man, with 59%. Shame.
The Sorry Not Sorry Cheater
Alright, I now know which category I belong to. I definitely belong to the 32% who absolutely do not feel guilty about cheating. 6 out of 10 would even do it more often if they were guaranteed not to get caught. And 45% of them also indicates that they will never admit it to their partner.
So do you want to continue cheating on Netflix but not get caught? Here are three tips that hopefully can help you with that.
- Create an extra profile. You can of course add multiple people to your account; use one of them if you want to cheat, and when you want to watch with your partner, just do it under your own name.
- Completely rewind to the end of the last episode you watched together and hope very hard that ‘Continue Watching’ will support you in this.
- Delete your history. Yehess, it’s possible. Go to your profile, click on your account in the top right, go to ‘view activity’ in my profile, click on the x on the right and then on ‘remove series’. And poof, it’s gone.
Happy cheating, wink wink.
