THE TERROR: FASHIONABLE SKIING
And 5 tips on how to do that
It's sporty. It's cool. Cozy. Well-off people ski. Developed people hit the slopes. Real skiing is a lot, but sexy? No, it's not. When I received an invitation for a press trip to Val di Fassa (near the Italian Dolomites), the question immediately shot through my mind: WHAT. DO. I. WEAR?! Because ski clothing stands for just about everything I, uh, don't stand for. I don't like to dress ‘comfy’. ‘Sporty’ is completely out of the question. But I think everything can have a fashionable twist. And that's why: 5 tips on how to still look semi-fashionable on the slopes.
1. Avoid ugly colors
Yeah, I know that winter sports enthusiasts always rebel and say it doesn't matter how you look, but I still see people zooming by that make me think: it's not bloody carnival. I mean: a neon green pair of pants with a bright yellow jacket and then showing up with a hat that has a purple mohawk sticking out of it (the horror, I just saw someone wearing this). HOW THEN? In my opinion, you should get a skiing ban. Keep it simple is the key.
2. Something with a trendy pair of sunglasses
Believe me, it does won-der-ful things for your outfit. Really, I don't know who decided that sunglasses can only be worn when the sun is shining, but Anna Wintour, mister Karl Lagerfeld, and I certainly don't agree with that person.
3. Invest in good items (if you plan to ski more often)
Yes, I have also bought a ski pants for twenty euros at an outlet in Lutjekut that I thought was good. Don't do it. A good pair of ski pants costs between 150 and 200 euros. But you will definitely see the difference, trust me. I am a big fan of O'Neill's ski collection: the black skinny jeans ski pants (yes, they apparently exist!) and the white ski jacket that I'm wearing in the photos both come from the Retro ski collection.
4. Choose your accessories
Actually, you have quite a few fashion options when you go skiing. I mean: you have helmets and you have helmets with flowers. Just saying. Choose a ski jacket with a nice faux fur, put on a cute hat, let your ski goggles match your gloves; skiing is actually quite hip!
5. Do something different with your hair
Put two braids in my hair and I look just like a little kid. If I have a helmet on my head or a hat on all day and then put in two braids, it suddenly looks quite ‘I've thought about this’. If you have to tie your hair up, you can also do it in a high Ariana Grande ponytail or braid it. Oh, and waterproof mascara is also not a luxury.
Alright, after two wines and some typing, I'm going to grab a little mountain. It's all very responsible here. More about the area I'm in tomorrow by the way. We'll catch up then, cozy!
