These are the travel trends for 2018
Where do we want to chill? Where on the globe do we step off the plane and what will be the new Bali? Booking.com surveyed 19 thousand travelers worldwide and rapapapa: I present to you today the biggest travel trends for the upcoming year.
1. Experiences are becoming more important than material things
Saving for that Gucci bag? Non, girlfriend! This year you (just like 45 percent of the respondents) are finally going to take that trip that has been on your bucket list for years. What is absolutely number 1 for most Dutch people? Visiting a wonder of the world. The Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, and Machu Picchu in Peru remain popular. So, what's stopping you?
2. Throwback Thursday
Do you also get a nice little tingle in your stomach when you think back to those lovely vacations from the past? A third of all travelers (34%) are considering going back in 2018 to a place they visited as a child, to see the destination from a new perspective. We millennials turn out to be the most sentimental. 44 percent of 18 to 34-year-olds would like to return to a family destination from their childhood.
3. Following our favorite series
If it were up to the respondents, TV shows, movies, sports, and social media will have an increasingly larger influence on our travels. Game of Thrones Filmed in Croatia and Iceland? We want to go there. Sherlock filmed in London and Entourage in Los Angeles? Book that ticket now.
4. The more souls...
2018 will be the year of traveling with friend groups. It's no longer just about the destination, but also about the people with whom we create memories. Additionally, it also has financial benefits. Four out of ten respondents indicate that they can stay in accommodation during a friendvacay that they could not have afforded otherwise.
5. Chilling, chilling, chilling in the hot tub
Fan of that day at the sauna? A yoga retreat in Bali or Ibiza? Then the wellness trip might be something for you. According to experts, the demand for wellness trips continues to grow in 2018. Compared to 2017, nearly twice as many people plan to take a trip focused on health and well-being. So, time for a little me-time? That wellness trip is totally on trend.
