Things you didn't know you could do with WhatsApp

At least, I didn't know any of this and it could very well be that you have lived under a WhatsApp rock with me and that this is all new to you as well. From making your own GIFs to using a really cool typewriter font. If you haven't spent enough time on your phone (say about 8 hours and 6 minutes in one day, just like our Kiek), then it could very well be that this is going to make your addiction even worse.

See with whom you have had the most interaction

The steps:

1. Go to ‘Settings’, bottom right on your WhatsApp screen.

2. Then click on ‘Data and storage usage’ and then on ‘Storage in use’.

If all goes well, you should now see a list of all your chats with the one you have had the most contact with at the top. If you click on that, you can see how many messages have been sent, but also all the photos and videos that have been shared.

Create an event as soon as someone mentions a date

This way you will never forget an appointment. As soon as a date is mentioned, it appears as a link in your conversation. Click on it and you get ‘Create activity’, allowing you to immediately set an appointment in your calendar.

The secret GIF archive of WhatsApp

Instead of just sending images and videos from your own archive, WhatsApp also has a lot of GIFs that you might not have known about.

The steps:

1. Go to any chat and click the ‘+’ icon, bottom left of your conversation.

2. Click on ‘Photo and video library’.

3. Then click on ‘GIF’ and choose something from the collection.

Or make GIFs from your own videos

Practically the same steps as before:

1. Go to any chat and click the ‘+’ icon, bottom left of your conversation.

2. Click on ‘Photo and video library’.

3. Select a video from your library (one that is under 64 MB).

4. With the video editing at the top, you can crop the video to about 5 seconds and voilà: you have a GIF.

Send messages without having to type anything

WhatsApp works with Siri (if you have an iPhone), so hold down your home button, say ‘Hey Siri’, followed by ‘Send WhatsApp to _____’ (name of the person you want to send something to) and then followed by the message you want to send. Whether this is easier than just leaving a voice message ? Well no, not really. But it can be.

Use a cool typewriter font

1. Go to the punctuation tab (sorry guys, no idea what this is called in Dutch) in your chat and add three apostrophes at the beginning and end of your message.

But uh, WhatsApp team, here are the four things we still want. Please and thank you.
