Today I marry my friends
In my heels and in a gown that really does nothing for your waist, I had been practicing in the living room for weeks. By the fourth evening, my boyfriend could also recite all the phrases from memory, so I stood in front of the mirror in the hallway. This was after I had created a love document, which I now expertly stamped into the round little head. At this moment, I am calling everyone Vivian and Nico or Vico a.k.a. Nivian. I have only been talking about them. Why? I am marrying my friends today. As in: really. They call it babs, then you are an extraordinary civil registrar. It's quite an honor, I can tell you.
I went through the wringer with all the municipal authorities and received a certificate of good conduct. That just proves once again how sweet I have been, Santa (I want all of this on December 5th), it's just as well that those parking tickets don't affect the final balance. After that, I was officially sworn in by a judge in Utrecht, where I had to take the oath. I accidentally made a sort of peace sign instead of swearing with my fingers tightly together, but who cares. I thought so, and luckily he did too. I passed the vetting.
If you are reading this, then I have married them. At least, if I did it well. At the back of the room, there is another registrar with experience, in case I go completely off track and do everything wrong. But I already made the neighbors from Franska.nl cry during the rehearsal of my speech and really no one knows the bride and groom personally. And May immediately started hugging. Here and there I got a ‘wow’ or someone was silent, so if I can manage to get my words out decently this afternoon, I hope I have a happy couple. And otherwise, I will immediately a bottle of wine take it from a waiter, you understand.
But things went wrong. For example, a thousand times a drink was planned when no one had time to come. I, together with my love, spoke to twenty people on the phone or in person. My invitations were printed with a blue back instead of a black one. I was a bit panicked about that because the colors are black, blush, and bronze, but then I realized that the groom's suit is also blue, so I could stay. Something went wrong in the grooming, but if all goes well, I am now cool and even again. And it was all just so big and special, well, you get it.
No stress otherwise. Everything is fun and I hope I could give them this biggest gift a bit decently. You will get all the inside information next week. Until then: say ‘yes’ when asked. Even if it seems scary, it's really fun.
