WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND
by Theo Bakana
Good afternoon, handsome heads, nice to see you again. Personally, I am really looking forward to the upcoming weekend because organizing such a beautiful event as our Look of the Year Awards is not something you can just brush off, I can tell you that. And no, don't worry, I'm not going to complain, “I turned the frown upside down” and have made extra effort to gather the best weekend tips for you. Are you ready?
Follow the steps
This weekend activity is actually very simple and believe me, it is quite essential. Here it comes:
1. Go out the door on any weekend day.
2. Find a large Albert Heijn, Ako, or Bruna.
3. Once inside, head to the women's section of the magazine department.
4. Admire the beautiful covers, you read that right: C.O.V.E.R.S., something with a split run from our very first PRINT ISSUE: Amayzine – Runway Issue.
5. After this, grab it from the shelf and hurry to the checkout. There you pay 4.99.
6. If necessary, take one for a dear friend. You will be richly thanked and rewarded, bet?
7. Flip through, smell, read, and admire (no, this is not a disguised version of a Ramses Shaffy song), it is truly a delight. And do let us know what you think.
AFW
After you have done the above, you can dress up in your finest suit, which will of course go perfectly after you have devoured our Runway Issue. And then? I hear you asking. Well, then you naturally go to Amsterdam FashionWeek. Under the motto of ‘support the local’, they also sell tickets for shows and bring front row even closer. At which shows can you high-five with the editors? Saturday night at Spijkers en Spijkers for example or Sunday at Liselore Frowijn and Edwin Oudshoorn. Want to see the entire program? You can here. If you already have other plans, keep an eye on Amayzine, because we report every day.
For the paradise birds
Perhaps you have heard of BAUT Zuid, BAUT Zuidas, or BAUT & Dreesmann. All restaurants of Masterchef jury member Michiel van der Eerde and in my opinion one of the coolest restaurant concepts. They call themselves ’the moving circus’ and move to a new (often anti-squat) location every few months to set up a restaurant from scratch again. This time it is BAUT Paradijs in Amsterdam-East; once again a gem or paradise, as they see it. Who wants to have lunch, drink, or dine with me (just a little alcohol-free) this weekend?
En route à Paris
For the loyal readers, this is no surprise: Amayzine loves Paris. Just look here or here or here or here and I can keep going for a while.. Coincidentally, I will be nibbling on a French baguette and drinking wine in the City of Light at this time next week. But if you lack time and free days but have a huge desire for Paris, then I have the perfect solution for you. At The Grand in Amsterdam, the traveling exhibition (previously on display in London and Paris) ‘La Parisienne by Sofitel’ is now free to admire in Amsterdam. There are iconic Parisian images to see and also new work from amateur photographers, all of which breathe the French feeling and the air of the city. Paris is really within reach with this exhibition.
Blockbusters
Feeling like going outside, but without too much fuss, then I find the cinema a good solution. Especially with the new films that are now showing. I have heard nothing but good things about Brimstone, apparently, your back hair (or in your case: arm hair) will really stand on end. I will definitely pay a visit to Ron Goossens: Low-Budget Stuntman, if only to admire this golden girl in it. The trailer for Live by Night looked finger-licking good and I have already stocked up on tissues for the new film with Omar Sy (you know, the one from Intouchables).
So, have I kept my promise? Plenty to do this weekend and for the perseverers and dry standers among us: it's almost Tuesday!

À bientôt!
