WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND

By Theo Bakana

Hey happy eggs, nice to see you again. I have some really great news for you. You actually have not two, but t-h-r-e-e whole days off this coming weekend. Yes, old news, I hear you thinking, and for part-timers or students this is not that special at all. But I am sure there are people who will be very happy about it. And for me, this came as quite a positive surprise halfway through the week, because I completely missed that it is Easter. Something about being under a rock? Or how did that Easter story go again? One way or another, the next three days are yours and this is what you can do.

Make it pop

‘Traditionally, I have been going to Paaspop at Easter’ is something you will never hear me say. But perhaps it is fun to try it out once. In the coming days, you can again go to Schijndel for the first official festival of this festival season. The place and name may not do justice to the festival, which has been around since 1974, because it is not as dusty as you might think. Or at least, not as dusty as I thought. Besides headliners like Anouk, Doe Maar, and Chef’Special, there are many different DJs (Joost van Bellen, Kriss Kross, and Speedy J for example), there is comedy, and the entire festival area has been transformed into a mini-Las Vegas. Is anyone feeling called to go hide the eggs with me there?

Digital affair

Paaspop may kick things off, DGTL  is right on it. This two-day festival at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam has been on the wishlist of electronic music lovers for a while. Besides a day filled with the best DJs, there are various art installations. It’s good to know that DGTL is an advocate for innovation and sustainability, and therefore there are various green touches that you will see during the festival. Saturday is already sold out, but there are still tickets for Sunday. So you can just hop along right after your Easter breakfast/brunch/egg hunt.

‘Happie, sappie, and disco say enough, I think’

Easter strolls part 1

Do you need a bit of rest, cleanliness, and regularity during this three-day weekend? Don't worry, because I have thought of that too. Yes, indeed, do I hear applause? You must be eager to walk off all that deliciousness after your Easter brunch again. If so, head towards the capital. There you have the Home Made Market at Lange Voorhout. Think: homemade products, tasty food, a carousel, and lots of other Easter fun.

Easter strolls part 2

Is the capital too far for you? Then you can also visit Kieks homebase: Utrecht. There, for the first time, the Werkspoor Festival will take place. And no, don’t worry, you don’t have to work there on your day off. It’s the name of the cathedral, the Werkspoorkathedraal. Happie, sappie, and disco say enough, I think; via the Easter eggs along the eggnog to then breathe new life into the bird dance.

Easter strolls part 3

In Amsterdam, you can among other places go to Roest. At the Easter market there, you will find authentic clothing, snacks, Easter treats, and drinks. Enough to keep you entertained, I think. And it is even still possible to rent a stall, but you have to be quick.

So, do you have a bit of confidence in the coming days? There can be dancing, laughing, and a lot of strolling. If it all feels a bit too busy, check out here or here for the latest Netflix updates. Then I can now leave you with a peaceful heart. Have a nice weekend for now.
Happy Easter and a happy new… Hey, wait a minute, yes, happy Easter, especially that.
