What we have learned from Max Mara
It actually started with May's fashion college about one of the coolest classics in the field of fashion that exists: the camel hair coat from Max Mara. The coat that can and may last forever and will never go ‘out of style’. I want it (Lilian too), but that means we really have to be a bit frugal with our money and that's just something we both have a little trouble with...
Anyways, Max Mara is for me such a brand in which, after a few years, I hope to walk around every day. The suits, the oversized fitting of much of the clothing, but everything still intensely feminine; a dream wardrobe. Especially if you, like me, still occasionally lean towards the tomboy look.
Yesterday, the SS18 collection of the fashion brand was shown (which Lilian and I attended) with among others Bella Hadid on the runway, Halima Aden, and our own Jessie Bloemendaal, and these are the main things we learned:
In terms of beauty
– It’s all about the red lips. Preferably bright red (men actually find it wildly attractive).
– The eyes remain calm. You can throw your eyeliner in the trash, a swipe of mascara is enough.
– You can brush your brows a bit and they should be seen, but don't make it too busy (read: don't draw them too dark), because it's all about those bright red lips.
– Bye middle part, the side part has made a comeback. And if you also have long hair, you now tie it in a low (straight) ponytail.
In terms of fashion
– Transparent remains hot.
– Two-piece items will be a hit. Think of blazers and trousers made from two different materials that look like the sleeve was added later. The same goes for pant legs.
– Long lengths are also here to stay, as knee-length blazers were also seen.
– Are you a fan of the color lilac? Nice, we hope to see a lot of that coming summer. And yes, this definitely goes well with those bright red lips.
– ‘Floral for spring? Groundbreaking.’ Ha, I can still hear Miranda Priestley saying that, but floral prints will definitely still be seen next year.
– And also a lot of white.
– Last but not least: Max Mara goes for remarkable. As in: suits decked out with their name on it. Because why not?
