What you can learn from the Gucci show

Maison de L’Amour, that name carried the SS18 show of Gucci. The house of love. And we have love, especially for fashion house Gucci. Outside, Lil and Elke are besieged by a horde of photographers, but really, and more on that later.

The decor was, and I quote house Gucci itself: “a modern translation of an ancient map featuring Roman poet Orazio’s country home.” I personally hope there weren't too many front row materials with epileptic tendencies present, because the light show was quite stimulating. But for now, what you saw and what we can learn from the SS18 show of Gucci.

With the first look that Gucci unleashed on the runway, we all got flashbacks to our mothers in the ’80s. The hair curled outwards, noteworthy shoulder pads, a three-quarter pencil skirt for the legs AND of course the check.

We quickly let go of that vibe when we spotted the futuristic headgear a.k.a. the sunglasses. If those aren't sparkling specimens for the nose next summer...

Our favorite, which we solemnly promised ourselves to never wear again, was received with loud cheers in the editorial office. Look, when Gucci brings something back, such promises are quickly forgotten. The belly bag or as the fashion-loving person affectionately calls it: a fanny pack. In black, in red, in all-over Gucci. All of us want a specimen, please.

May went through the number of deniers that is permissible this weekend with you, but Gucci showcased the glitter tights. And it didn't stop there, the knee socks were there too. We're going to raise an eyebrow over this one. By the way, it's totally allowed if you have model legs.

The man remains youthful. He puts his legs in leather hot pants (we challenge you) and the upper body is adorned with Bugs Bunny or anything Disney.

Glitter, shine, sequins, EVERYTHING. And that can be done with a good knit, the classic blazer and that check from mom's (which we actually find really nice).

White in winter, fur in summer. Whether you are okay with this or not, Gucci showcased fur for SS18. In the form of an ankle-length coat, along the lapel of the sleeve and in the collar.

Here we expected the over-the-top purple (yes, purple is on the way) all-over glitter gown with turban, but the showstopper was almost lovely, soft and we held our breath for the romantic. Ah, this was really Maison de L’Amour.

And because it now tops my list of designer bags (and that list is extensive, believe me): the red specimen. The wow. It is grand, it is already butter-soft from a distance and I haven't even said anything about the color yet. Just soft enough, just subtle, but still red.
