Why a little walk is so healthy for you

Call me a grandma, but I currently have a new evening activity. And no, it's not that new Netflix series, girlfriend (okay, I'll do that later in the evening). After my plate of stir-fried vegetables and sweet & spicy tempeh I'm going for a walk. Nothing better than clearing my head after a long day at the keyboard. I would prefer to do it at a gallop, but as you know by now, I also exercise in the morning and yes, I have a ban on exercising twice a day. However, walking is good for everything. For your heart, blood vessels, blood pressure, cholesterol, bones, memory, and the list goes on. It even seems to be so healthy that it's better to walk for a long time than to exercise for a short time.

These are the reasons why you should also put on your walking shoes after eating. Then you can carefree enjoy a BLOCK of chocolate while watching Netflix.

1. Losing weight

By walking briskly for an hour every day, you burn about 250 calories. And that is roughly equivalent to an entire bag of this favorite popcorn from the editorial team.

2. Good legs

Well, it's no news that you get a nice pair of legs by exercising regularly. But that it was this simple...

3. Good for muscles and bones

Walking strengthens the muscles and bones and thus reduces the risk of osteoporosis (bone loss). By regularly loading bones, they not only become stronger; those who walk a lot even build new bone mass.

4. Heart and blood vessels

Walking for at least half an hour every day ensures that your blood pressure and cholesterol levels drop. It improves the condition of the heart and blood vessels, and by being active for at least one hour a week, the risk of heart problems decreases by as much as 50 percent.

5. Lungs

Walking a lot increases the capacity of your lungs, which in turn allows your lungs to absorb more oxygen.

6. Against diabetes

The risk of type 2 diabetes is reduced by as much as 58% if you go for a walk every day.

7. Antidepressants

Walking allows you to clear your head and works against stress and depressive feelings.

8. Brain

People who exercise regularly have a 20-50% lower chance of Alzheimer's. Now, that's still a distant concern, Alzheimer's. In forty years, you'll reap the benefits.

9. A clean belly

Walking a piece every day stimulates metabolism and ensures that your intestines do not get clogged.

10. Better sleep

Walking is also good for the biological clock, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. But it also improves the quality of sleep.

11. It reduces the risk of cancer

Quite shocking, but the survival rate of people with colon cancer doubles if they walk for at least an hour every day.
