WORLD GIN DAY
#elkeholic #vandepartij
So today is World Gin Day. And I felt it was very necessary to write something about it. Look, you either created #elkeholic or you didn't (okay fine, the credits actually go to my ex), so I have to do justice to my hashtag. And before I get a load of shit thrown at me later, take it with a grain of salt. Also chocolate, cheesecake, pizza, and everything of that sort falls under my title. Actually, everything I (so Elke) find delicious. But hey, with gin it just works well too. By the way, these hashtags, they just don't work. Very 2015.
Back to World Gin Day, because it needs to be celebrated. With a Bobby’s or a Hendrick’s, a Damrak, a Sylvius (favorite), and I recently found out that there is a British gin called Beefeater. Well, I do love word puns and funny names, but ‘hey, can I get a Beefeater’ I find almost as bad as ordering a ‘Sex on the beach’ – who the hell came up with this? But hey, what's in a name.
If you happen to be near Damsko; the Foodhallen has organized something in honor of this holiday. Workshops with some of the aforementioned favorites, for example. Also nice, and a place where I like to go with Kiek, Lil, and Simoon: Mossel & Gin (ladies, when's date night again?). By the way, here you will also find the absolute best gin-mayo – yes, that exists.
A party at home on this holiday is of course also possible. And to help you with that, here’s the recipe for a personal favorite of mine (so easy, so good):
What you need:
– clove
– orange
– ice cubes
– Bobby’s gin (another one is also fine)
– Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic
What you need to do:
Cut the orange into slices about half a centimeter thick and stick two to three pieces of clove into the flesh. Fill your glass with ice cubes, add the gin (I’ll let you decide how much you want to pour in), stir it a bit and then add a slice of orange (with clove) to your glass. Stir again and lastly add the Elderflower Tonic. Stir one last time and you’re ready to drink it.
Cheers!
