ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A

NEW JOB?

 (these are the signs)

With a nauseous twist in my stomach, a pounding heartbeat on the left side of my chest, and sweat everywhere and nowhere, I quit my first job. It was three years, ten thousand bouquets, and a trillion nice weekend wishes after my first day in the flower shop, and I wanted something new. Something different. I went through the bookstore (oh man, that deeeelicious amount of books) to a liquor store (you immediately understand my love for grand wine tasting), into the restaurant (and yes, the food), then had my nose in the study books and afterwards went to a marketing department. So I waved goodbye quite a bit in my thirty years.

And I not only closed the door behind me, but I also saw some of my favorite people starting a new job. Logical, because sometimes you want something different. Are you still doubting whether you should be open to a new job? These are the signs that it’s your time to move on.

‘I saw some of my favorite people starting a new job’

Challenge? What is that?

If you are working on autopilot or routine; beware. Nice, that company car and that salary, but that’s just to keep your spirits up for a little while longer. A part of humanity is born with ambition and sometimes you just want to look further. Peeking at the neighbors, checking if the grass is a different shade of green. And if you notice that you are dozing off during the supersonic five-year plan of your business, then you can assume it’s time for something new. Unless you’ve been hanging in the lights until the last hour, then the cause is of a completely different order.

Promotion? No way, José!

Secretly, you dream of a step up the ladder. And that is ALWAYS allowed. But let’s say, what if the steps are gone or there’s someone in front of you who won’t move aside… Then this is not the place for you to grow. You know this, you feel this, you see this, it’s almost written in big letters above the front door. So be honest with yourself.

Offer upon offer upon offer

Do you have to turn down headhunters and receive request-upon-offer-upon-tempting-offer? Applause for you, because then you are a catch in your field. Now it’s a matter of figuring out if you get all that credit from your current boss or if you sometimes flirt with that other job. Is it the latter? Time to say goodbye. And are you using it to squeeze more money out of your employer's pocket? Then it might just be that they decide for you.
