10 things you probably didn't know

about your own cat

Kiki Duren

You might think your cat goes for a ’little‘ stroll at night, but that rascal is just chilling kilometers away, you know. In the spirit of today, yes, International Cat Day (and I'm definitely a fool when it comes to cats), I've sniffed out some purrfectly fascinating cat facts that will make your whiskers stand on end. Meow!

Your cat's nose is comparable to a fingerprint

If there ever were a cat prison for the real bad pussies, those noses would undoubtedly be scanned. Every cat nose is unique.

Cats cannot see what is directly under their nose

Now you understand why your cat sometimes has a hard time when you put food right in front of its nose: it can't see it.

Your cat can jump up to five times its own height

Just imagine you jumping nine meters into the air. That's what I mean.

Your cat sleeps about sixteen hours a day

Sixteen. When they are six years old, they have only been awake for two years of their life (!). HOW COME.

Cats can make about a hundred different sounds

And while dogs can only make about ten. Who run the world?

Your cat sweats in this weather too. But not under the paws...

...but between the little pads on their paws. Awh.

Cats walk further at night than you think

You think they just walk around the corner? Nope. Sometimes up to three, four kilometers away.

Your cat cannot taste sweet flavors

This is due to a genetic mutation. So, the next time you wonder why it begs for watermelon: it's probably just because of the watery.

And if you're wondering how fast your cat can run at top speed...

...that's easily 50 kilometers per hour at top speed. Not for long, of course, but when the shit hits the fan, it can actually happen.

Just like humans, cats also have a dominant side

Cats are generally right-pawed – or eh, pawed? – while tomcats are left-pawed.
