5x you ask this to your guests at your wedding
The RSVPs are pouring in, the invitations are at the printer and the preparations are in full swing. A not entirely unimportant question is: what do you ask as a wedding gift from the guests? And how do you ensure that the gifts will be a lasting memory of your beautiful day? Because let's be honest, no one is waiting for a salt and pepper shaker, you have vases in abundance, and you’re not exactly thrilled about that ugly plant from Aunt Toos either. But what do you ask then?
1. Your guests are your gift
Maybe you and your partner decide that you are actually satisfied with what you have. And that the presence of your loved ones is of greater value to you than a large box with a huge bow around it or an envelope with contents. That’s fine, but make sure you have a corner where people can leave a card or where you place a nice book for your guests to write a wish in.
2. Alternative gift list
There will always be guests who do want to give you a gift. Make sure you have a list somewhere or have it online so you don’t receive duplicate presents. Many stores even allow you to leave a wishlist that the store keeps track of. This way you know you’ll get what you wish for and that you won’t receive duplicate gifts.
3. Cash
Asking for money remains awkward. But when you attach a wish to it, it becomes a bit less awkward. For example, say that you are saving for a nice trip, a hot air balloon ride, or a new car.
4. Good cause
Ask guests to bring an envelope with money. Not for yourselves, but for a good cause that you have chosen. Opening a special bank account is of course also an option. Do announce in advance which good cause you choose, so that people know where they are donating money. This way, you make even more people (or animals) in the world happy with your happiness.
5. Post wedding party
Create a special gift box and ask your guests for a donation that you will use to organize a fun post-wedding party/trip. Look, and everyone benefits from that.
