Love & Sex

Here comes the bride, these are the wedding trends of 2018

I don't know what's in the air, but somehow I have the feeling that the whole world is engaged. Our royal ginger knelt for the blood beautiful Meghan and there are rumors that Justin is marrying his Selena soon. However, Instagram showed me this holiday season that Dutch men are also massively going down on one knee. And I must say: I understand that. Because how romantic is that, amidst the champagne, Christmas wreaths, and cheese boards around?

If you are one of those lucky ones who is now beaming from ear to ear, I can imagine that you have already created a Pinterest account. And I feel you. Let me help you with the next step so you can go wild tonight. These are the wedding trends of 2018. Let the preparations begin.

1. Fifty shades of Blue

Blue is the color of the coming year. Preferably in different shades of blue. This creates a playful effect and it also looks beautiful with your pristine white dress. Combine with copper, gold, or silver tones and you get a very luxurious appearance.

2. Cake party

Not one gigantic wedding cake five layers high with layers of fondant and frills, but a table full of treats. Your aunt's carrot cake, your mother's famous apple pie, cupcakes from your favorite coffee shop, and the chocolate brownie you shared on your first date. This way, there is something delicious for everyone (thinking of the vegans, gluten-free, lactose-free, and other dieters among the guests) and it also looks incredibly cozy.

3. Transparent

Plexiglass is trendier than ever. Transparent items are making a comeback. Think of large globes above the dining table filled with flowers or candles. But also store your wedding rings in a transparent box filled with flowers, twigs, or other decorative materials. Not only details are made transparent; how cool is it to get married in a greenhouse? Or at a location with an entirely glass roof?

4. Mix & match

In other words, urban vintage. Go for a location with history, like a rugged warehouse or an old building. Go wild with flowers, but don't make it too sweet; also work with sleek elements of iron, glass, or wood.

5. Copper

Copper is the new marble. Want to pair it with a color? Go for soft pastel shades like mint or peach pink.

6. Personalize

Personalizing, I love it and I know: you do too. What we will see a lot in the coming year are names and initials of the bride and groom in the decoration. Think of personalized thank you gifts, ring boxes, napkins, booklets, and even cutlery.

7. Neon

Where we previously saw things lit up by lanterns, chandeliers, and other light sources, we are now going for something more retro. A brand new trend that we will see a lot in wedding photos are neon lights. Just be careful not to make it too much of a circus; a nice bright color is fine, but don't go completely wild with different light boxes.

8. Wood

The name speaks for itself. A rustic wooden look at your wedding is completely trendy. While last year we used the farm as a wedding location a lot, we are moving it this new year to a wooded area. Think in the direction of ‘Enchanted Forest’ and a super romantic atmosphere is guaranteed! Of course, you can also replicate this vibe well with plenty of wooden decorative materials and beautiful flowers and plants. The nice thing about this theme is that it doesn't all have to be very neat; it's actually fun to incorporate raw materials like untreated wood. Imperfect is the new perfect.
