7x how to make a dish vegan
You increasingly see vegan products on the shelves, restaurants have vegan options on the menu, and recipes on the worldwide web show how to make a dish plant-based. I myself quite enjoy a tender piece of beef from time to time, and I also like to put a chicken from the oven on the table, but I also notice that there are sometimes days that go by without me having any animal products on my plate. Unconsciously, actually. And that feels quite nice, because going plant-based a bit more often brings quite a few benefits. For example, plant-based eating reduces the risk of unpleasant conditions and diseases, eating greens is better for the environment, and we thus ensure less animal suffering. Do you also want to replace that slice of chicken breast or that omelet with something green without just having to gnaw on a carrot or a stalk of broccoli? This is how you do it.
Cheese
Yes, cheese. Many people find that piece of meat not so bad to skip, but as the world's biggest cheese lover, staying away from that cheese slicer is quite a challenge. Fake cheese, well, that exists. It's not the same as that creamy slightly spicy aged variant on your toastie. But as long as you melt a slice of fake cheese, it's still manageable. The variety and taste are getting better and better, but it remains fake cheese. You can replace Parmesan with nutritional yeast flakes, and you can quickly whip up cream cheese based on soaked cashews.
Milk
Thank goodness more and more plant-based variants are coming onto the market, allowing you to easily leave the white motor on the shelf. Oat milk is delicious in coffee, and with almond milk, you can prepare the tastiest breakfasts.
Egg
- Replace a fried egg with a chickpea omelet or scrambled eggs with tofu scramble.
- In a baking dish, replace your egg with a tablespoon of flaxseed mixed with two tablespoons of water. To sweeten your bake at the same time, you can also choose a ripe mashed banana.
Protein
Even that super sweet meringue that is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside can be made green. By capturing the liquid from a can of chickpeas and whipping it stiff, you have a vegan version of your lemon meringue pie in no time.
Whipped cream
Just like with cream cheese, you can quickly conjure up a silky smooth cream on the table with a bag of raw cashews. Add a bit of fresh vanilla and some maple syrup or agave, and you can spoon the whole bowl empty. But the solid part of a can of coconut milk is also a good alternative as a base for that whipped cream from a spray can.
Chocolate
All praise for Tony. Among others, the pure almond-sea salt, pecan-coconut, and orange-rosemary from the best man are 100% suitable for vegans.
Ice cream
And a Netflix night is now complete with the new vegan tubs from Ben & Jerry’s.
