8 quite weird snacks
In the category of ‘quite the turn-offs’: being invited to a gathering where these snacks are served. And where a bowl is ready for you. You know, one of those glass bowl-shaped dishes where the glasses are attached and from which you scoop the drink and pieces of fruit into the cups with a large spoon. For the better ‘ah’ and ‘oh my god’ experience, because I bet you have eaten it too?
1. Liver sausage
And then those delicious, thick slices. We just ate that. Or a nice slice of pâté, that was the luxury version.
2. Chips with dip sauce
In the eighties, we preferred to eat from bags. So you bought a bag of herbs from Duijvis, mixed it with mayonnaise, and then you dipped the chips in there. I believe I didn't really like it, but I enjoyed dipping together. #peer group pressure
3. Deviled eggs
I already get a sour feeling just writing it down. With a little swirl from the piping bag and a few snips of chives on top. We have a colleague, we won't name names, but he calmly eats a tray of deviled eggs on New Year's Eve. And then I feel a bit sorry for his girlfriend... Although luckily he is otherwise an incredibly nice man.
4. Bugles with filling
I still find Bugles intensely delicious, but do you remember filling the cones with a paste from a tube disguised as a chef? BRRRRR to the max.
5. Snack nuts
When was the last time you saw someone eating snack nuts? It must have been in the same year that John Player Special cigarettes were still in a black bowl on the table.
6. Dates with blue cheese
Still sounds quite nice to me, but it really can't be done anymore.
7. Gherkin with salami
And a cube of cheese with canned mandarin. Did I already say brrrr once? Yes, right?
8. Likkepot
Do you remember it? Likkepot? That's liver sausage with mayonnaise and ketchup that you season with Maggi (Mággi, MAGGI) and finish with some finely chopped onion.
Later we will undoubtedly laugh at our cheese boards, hummus dips and pata negra, but for now I'm just very happy that I get to spend my snacking period in this decade and not in the previous one, how about you?
