The latest food trend: Sweet Hummus
Perhaps the most consumed item in the editorial office (besides the jars of pickles that are flying off the shelves): hummus. On the cracker, with the salad, or as a dip for the snack carrot. From normal to spicy, falafel or pink beet; name it, we love it.
Are you, like us, intensely addicted to the healthy protein-rich spread? Then your hum-heart is bound to start beating faster now. The American company Delighted By Hummus recently developed a sweet variant. We want it, and so do you. Bet?
The base of hummus, ground chickpeas, turns out to be not only the perfect match for garlic, but the creamy texture of hummus surprisingly resembles the structure of cookie dough. Cocoa powder, sugar, and vanilla also turn out to be the perfect cocktail to whip up a delicious treat.
Delicious for dipping your cookie or as healthy frosting over that homemade (not so healthy) brownie. Or as we say here at the lunch table: as dessert on your last cracker.
The hummus is available in four flavors: brownie, vanilla, mint & chocolate, and snickerdoodle. The product is currently only available in America, so until then you'll have to get to work yourself.
For a large bowl
1 teaspoon of paprika powder
5 tbsp cocoa powder
4 tbsp almond milk
4 tablespoons maple syrup/agave syrup
pinch of salt
pulp of 1 vanilla pod/1 tsp vanilla extract
1. Drain the chickpeas and rinse them with water.
2. Put the chickpeas together with the other ingredients in the blender and mix until you get a smooth, creamy mass.
