9 super quick tips to make your home totally fleeky
As you all know, I am now from my crown to my toes in a renovation. Yes, I bought a house together with my boy in my beloved Utrecht. And when you suddenly get access to 100 square meters and have no clue how you want to shape it all, panic sets in. I know very well which items I like, but I have no idea how to make it all cozy. Does that lamp match that couch? No idea. Which color looks calm but not boring? No idea. How can I get a super trendy interior without spending a fortune? Donno. And so it was time to look for someone to help. Through connections, I got in touch with Georgia de Vlieger, interior stylist and freelancer from Georgia Interior Design. I can tell you: people, I am growing up. Hiring someone to help me with all my interior stuff is the best investment of my life (okay, besides.
those new Prada shoes of course, a bit less grown-up). Anyway, I called Georgia. If she had any tips to make my interior totally 'on fleek', without it getting too cheesy. She had a hundred, but I’ve listed the nine easiest and quickest for you. Want to let a fresh breeze blow through your little nest? Trust me: with this, your house can last for years.
Tip 1: Don't forget your ceiling.
What color is your ceiling? White? Probably. While it’s actually super cozy to wallpaper your ceiling, or if you find that too intense: to paint it. Open an average interior magazine and you see: wow, a pimped ceiling. Costs little, makes a world of difference.
Tip 2: slap a terra color on the wall.
Oh man, I found this scary at first. Georgia suggested to smear a kind of sand/poop color on the walls, but after three looks, I suddenly find this Marrakech/sandy desert style quite cool. And if you don’t like it, you can just paint over it again, right? I tell you: terra is 2018.
Tip 3: the color blocking trend is still going strong.
And think about this: heavy mixing is allowed! But really go for the right bright colors for a nice contrast.
Tip 4: for a luxury hotel vibe, put a rug under your bed.
We all want that hotel feeling, right? Go for a large rug under your bed and avoid small rugs next to your bed. Do you have a bed of 1.80 meters? Then go for a rug with a minimum width of 2.30 meters. Want a playful look? Go for a trendy kilim rug.
Tip 5: Portuguese tiles for a foreign touch.
Super cool for your wallpaper, but secretly I’m even looking to see if I could buy stair stickers with a Portuguese tile. Tip: check out
De Behangfabriek . They have fantastic prints.. And,.
these stair stickers, are totally the shit, right? For €195 you can already pimp your stairs and the difference is huge. You can thank me later. Tip 6: do something crazy with your radiators.
Making something ugly in your room beautiful: it’s possible. Are you tired of that white radiator and ugly heating pipes? Give them a color. It can be as crazy as you want. In a bright color, but I chose gold. I was a bit afraid it would look ugly, but really, I am completely in love with it.
Tip 7: paint an entire room in one color.
A uni-colored room gives a super chic feeling. How nice is it to tackle that little toilet thoroughly?
Tip 8: closed furniture is not always necessary
For the big messy people in the world maybe, but otherwise: definitely do it. Open furniture is totally hot. Bring on that walk-in closet.
Tip 9: knock knock: don’t forget your door.
Doors are awkward; inconvenient, big, and clumsy. And should they really be black or white like you always see? According to Georgia, no. Taking your door along is totally in now. And I must say: it looks awesome.
Hey there, friends. As you know, I am now from my head to my toes in a renovation. Yes, I bought a house together with my….
