  1. In 1912, the first cookie hit the shelves. Since then, the best cookie has been the best-selling sweet snack in America. In total, 450 billion Oreos have been sold worldwide since 1912.
  2. Why the name Oreo? No one knows.
  3. The National Biscuit Company opened a bakery in 1898 between 15th and 16th Street in New York, where the first cookie rolled out of the oven. The street has since been officially named Oreo Way.
  4. The super sweet white filling was originally made from lard (yes, pig fat), but the makers of the sweet snack switched to vegetable fat in the 90s.
