All your girlfriends gather
Amsterdam gets its very first Japanese karaoke bar
Our dream is coming true. The dream of the entire editorial team, by the way, and I even saw a colleague from the foodies at FavorFlav just waving an imaginary microphone in the air. It is on and it has nothing to do with an Elfstedentocht, but with Amsterdam's very first Japanese karaoke bar. Duke of Tokyo is about to become our newest guilty pleasure.
Actually, my week is one long karaoke session. If Lil doesn't grab her mic for an old-school cheesy number, then Simone will go all out on Mark Wilkinson. I myself am a fan of all the ‘Songs to sing in the shower’ on Spotify, which do extremely well at high volume in a packed editorial office. I think so. We love karaoke, that much is clear.
Good news for you and your girlfriends, colleagues, and vague acquaintances. On Monday, April 23, Duke of Tokyo will open its doors at Reguliersdwarsstraat 37 in Amsterdam. Inside, you'll find 8 real karaoke booths. I mean: karaoke booths (!). Completely in style, by the way, because you feel like you're in a neighborhood in Tokyo. If you're not much of a nightingale, you can just indulge in a hefty cocktail and Japanese snack; after five glasses, you'll dare to join in too (note: this advice is indeed based on experience, not on common sense). In the smallest booth, you fit with four girlfriends, for the largest with about 25 singers, just bring all your colleagues. They open on April 23. Really, I can't wait.
