And I was brunette again

Why changing your hairstyle radically from time to time is a good idea

“Was this your idea or was it the hand of the master?” Patty Zomer knows her stuff. We are sitting together in the salon of Leco van Zadelhoff and she critically yet approvingly examines my new haircut. “Let me put it this way, I really wanted something different and gave Leco free rein.” This has actually been going on for years. We navigate from blonde to brunette, from long to bob, and everything in between. And Monday was the day again. The scissors went in. And this is why that is a good idea.

Everything is different

Your clothes look different, you feel like wearing different makeup, even a different perfume. You hold your entire wardrobe up to the light again. And your own face too, and that is always a good idea.

The compliments, people, the compliments

A little trim doesn’t earn any praise. No one notices. But if suddenly thirty centimeters of your hair is gone and you are forty shades darker, you get quite the reactions. And all positive. Thank goodness.

It marks periods

I preach this with clothing too. Step out of your comfort zone. Choose a color. If you play it safe, before you know it, you’ll be wearing that little black dress for the rest of your life. You are not the same person at forty. Shape your hairstyle to who you are at that moment and how you feel. It gives a new swing to your life.

This is what a good hair stylist does

Leco sees me differently than I see myself. He really looks at me. Observes. And sees what suits my face or my life stage and what connects with the moment. With what’s happening in hairland. That’s a tip. Let a professional take a look at you. Also regarding makeup. There’s a good chance you’re always doing the same thing. That line here, that lipstick there.

Good excuse for new shampoos

Every color deserves its shampoo. And this just calls for a hair mask. And a bath session. And a weekend. In a nice hotel. Yes, that’s a must.

Coziness people, coziness

A little hair change takes three hours. You might find that annoying, but turn it around. Bring your favorite magazines (at Leco there’s always a selection of Beau Mondes &C’s and Amayzine of course), put your phone on silent, clean up your inbox, and while you’re at it, your photo album too, and chat with that nice person who does everything to make you look your best when you walk out the door.

The hairdresser, good for you.
