Everything you want to know (and have) about Gucci FW ‘18
At the Gucci FW ’18 show, people sat in a sterile operating room, you could hear the beeping of the heart monitor, and all of that created a little shiver down the spine. Anyway, because it's Gucci and you want to be there, but also because you feel like you're in the ICU and you want to stay away from that. Creative Director Alessandro Michele pushed off, but pulled back just as hard.
The show came to life with the Latin poem Stabat Mater. A woman wore a white lace panty around her legs and for a change her own head on her arm, which was actually both a bit frightening. But also a dragon and the Gucci snake were embraced. Gucci's own explanation was that the dragon was inspired by the story ‘Legend of the baby dragon in the Jar’. There was all white, the checkered pattern, flowers, Zorro-esque hats pulled far over the eyes, love for Japan, pitch-black eyeliner, a lot of rhinestones, and of course Anna Wintour was sitting front row. What else did we see and immediately want?
That divine long wrap dress in red.
A round Gucci, because we were still missing that one.
Just like the bag on a chain in red and green, by the way.
The suit, because we love suits and especially those from Gucci.
A little love is blooming again for the logo of the New York Yankees.
We also see the Ugly Betty’s back at the feet.
And if we're going to shop, then we’d also like the black mule.
What remained after Alessandro Michele's bow? Nothing. No extra round with all the models, just the music playing out. It felt empty and was probably exactly the goal.
