Bizarre cool train journeys you want to take NOW
If you do it right, traveling by train is the best thing there is. And no, I'm not talking about those third-class carriages with NS. I'm talking about a soft, luxury seat. A good glass of wine. And a spectacular view while you sit back comfortably. Ready for the most beautiful train journeys in the world?
1. The Trans-Siberian Express – Russia
Books have been written about it and movies have been made. Is there a more legendary train ride than this? The Trans-Siberian Express is the longest train journey in the world. Seven days, over 9200 kilometers, from Moscow right through Siberia to Vladivostok. I don't think I can explain to you how cool it seems to me to take this once. Before my thirtieth, deal?
2. Rocky Mountaineer – Canada
Never been to the Rocky Mountains? Great, then this is the perfect time, especially by train. Look out the window and see the beautiful white mountain peaks contrasting against the stunning green pine trees. Depending on the route you choose (the train journeys from Vancouver to Jasper and Banff are said to be the most beautiful), you will be on the road for about 2 to 3 days. And believe me: you can leave those magazines for the journey at home.
3. Maharajas Express – India
In the corridors also known as the most luxurious train in the world. The service is practically equivalent to a five-star hotel, the meals are of the highest level, and the presidential suite (42 m2) consists of a complete carriage. The Maharajas Express travels through North-West and Central India, past fairy-tale palaces, temples, historical monuments, colorful cities, and vast nature parks. And come on man, if the restaurant on board looks like this...
4. The Indian Pacific – Australia
With this memorable train journey (4,352 kilometers), you travel in three days from East to West Australia. You start in Sydney and end in Perth (or vice versa) and encounter a shitload of photo-worthy moments along the way. And you can bet that those kangaroos will show up.
Airplane, I love you, but I think it's pretty clear: my next trip will be by train. Joe!
