This must be in the birth package of every pregnant woman
Now I really do love a tidy house, but Jon has an OCD-like urge to get everything at home spick and span. When I am half asleep in the morning and called out of bed by the little man, I try to squeeze in a little more sleep on the couch, but when Jon takes the morning shift, the whole house is already tidied up and vacuumed before eight o'clock. This sounds like the ideal man, and he truly is, but he does get a little help. Instead of pulling out a beast of a vacuum cleaner from the closet, Jon can quickly grab our wireless version from the hanging system (built by him, which he is quite proud of) and then vacuum the whole house wirelessly. I actually think that every pregnant woman should receive such a Dyson V10 in her birth package, because it makes your household life a lot easier right away. And who knows, you might get your guy just as excited about vacuuming (uhh...) as I do.
That summery weather is of course a treat, but I wonder how other parents manage this with their little one on the bike. Despite the fact that I apply sunscreen well on Otis, he still gets the bright sun on his little body, especially during a ride from West to deep East, where he sits in that seat for a full hour and a half (of course with a cap on). Luckily, the little man has his father's pigmentation and tans where you can see him, so he can handle some sun rays. Maybe I should come up with some kind of contraption where you can attach a small parasol to the bike. Sounds handy, right? In any case, I went looking for the best sunscreen for kids and ended up with Weleda Edelweiss. It does leave a white layer, but it protects the skin like crazy.
Boom Chicago is celebrating its 25th anniversary and it must be celebrated big. In New York, I once went to a musical improv and I was amazed: they asked the audience for a genre and a title for the musical, and then a complete musical number was improvised, in harmony and all. Now I found out last weekend that they do this at Boom Chicago as well, along with many more brilliant improvisation tasks. In Carré, they organized a special night where comedians from the past 25 years shared the stage with ‘next level’ improvs. I was amazed by among others Seth Meyers (who started at this club) and other English-speaking performers who traveled from far and wide to play for a good cause. If you've never been to a Boom Chicago show, then this is one for your to-do list: you are guaranteed to have a hilarious evening!
If you are staying in the country this summer, you absolutely cannot miss this experience: from July 30 to August 25, you can experience the virtual reality drama CARNE y ARENA. It is an individual experience, based on true stories of migrants from Mexico and Central America. You walk barefoot in the sand and feel as if you are in the merciless border desert between Mexico and the United States. Alejandro González Iñárritu (the brilliant director of among others ‘Black Bird’ and ‘The Revenant’). It is said to be such an overwhelming and unique experience that it is almost impossible to get a ticket. On July 30, tickets for the last days will go on sale: I will be anxiously sitting behind my phone in Italy that morning to secure tickets.
