Me & my Renault
Vera Polman
The funny thing about having a nice car is that it creates a bond. It’s just like with a dog. When I see other people in the woods with the same breed, not only do those dogs gravitate towards each other, but the owners do too. Because apparently, you like the same things. It’s the same with your car. When I see a little Twingo driving by, I can’t help but give a small wave or a little blink. That waving to each other isn’t just the exclusive right of motorcyclists, is it?
In this place, I roll out the red carpet for readers who are also team Renault. That’s double the fun, because then you’re both team Amayzine and team Renault. You could say we’re friends for life. Almost. Anyway. Today, the floor belongs to Vera Polman.
23 years old, grew up in the Arnhem area but currently living in Amsterdam. Studying social work and services and doing an internship in a women’s prison. So, very Orange is the New Black. She has a boyfriend and a lot of good girlfriends with whom she loves to sip cocktails. That’s also the only time in the week that she leaves her Twingo behind. If possible, she’s in Ibiza or Curaçao. Once one vacation is over, she books a new one. In the Netherlands, she travels from internship to friend to sea and back in her own sporty Twingo.
Tell me, how many hours do you spend together?
‘I’ve had my Twingo – which I actually call my own race car because I have such a sporty version – for two years and the odometer reads 37,000. I really use it daily: when I go to work, visit my girlfriends, or go to my boyfriend. I actually only don’t use it when we go for a drink in the city, haha.’
A car is freedom. Do you also take it across the border?
‘I’ve been to Paris with it, but when I go further away, I choose to fly. We do drive all over the Netherlands, but it might have to do with the fact that my favorite destinations are Ibiza and Curaçao, which you can’t reach quickly by car.’
How did this car come into your life?
‘I had another car from a different brand, but I traded it in for the Twingo. What I really like is that you can style it yourself. You can choose your own color, the wheels, the upholstery, the side mirrors in a certain color or a sporty stripe… I really fell for that.’
So far for the outside. How does it drive?
‘Very light and smooth. Acceleration is really easy. I truly believe everyone would enjoy driving this car. The most important thing for me is the small turning circle. You can park so easily.’
Are you also curious about your own Renault Twingo? Take a look here totally and completely non-binding for a, if I may say so myself, quite bizarrely nice lease offer.
