Curls without electricity

Now Jon actually never interferes with my clothing purchases for Otis and luckily he finds all his outfits equally beautiful, until he overheard something about buying a leopard print legging. ‘Sorry sweetheart, but I'm putting my veto down here. My son is not going to walk around in a leopard print.’ As if that settled the matter, he looked somewhat surprised when a few days later a small package landed on the doormat. Yes, sorry, but I do love those unisex outfits. Plus: Otis can really pull off anything and I think that such a lovely leopard print can actually look very cool combined with the right outfit. That same afternoon we were at the beach, where suddenly two women came walking towards us to compliment us on Otis's cool style. ‘Never change, okay!’ one of those ladies encouragingly shouted at us. 1-0 for that pretty cool fashion sense of your wife, dear Jon.

In the meantime, I have become a sort of hotline for friends who need to score an outfit last minute. Whether it's a gala, theme party, or premiere; there's something for everyone in that giant closet (hmm, maybe I should get involved in that). And this time it was my friend B. who called me the day before: ’Caar, you have to help me with accessories for the Dutch Met gala.‘ WHAT?! Why do I know nothing about this? Luckily, that same friend had access to the organization and the next day I was walking around at the Young Patrons Gala (in a gala dress that I ’just happened‘ to have hanging in the closet, tags and all). Now there were indeed a number of beautiful creations around, but we certainly can't compare ourselves to The Met yet. But that doesn't matter at all, because the evening was mainly about the National Opera & Ballet, which share the stage one night a year and have shown fantastic performances. Next year, I will definitely be there again, but then in a slightly more extravagant dress.

In the meantime, I have collected a whole drawer full of hair styling products. At every set I go to, I find a product that I think can style my hair forever and in two seconds. Not so. Somehow that sea salt spray works just a little differently at home and that jar of ‘clay’ seemed so handy, but when I do it myself, my hair looks dirtier and greasier than before that action. When I got this tip from a friend, I eagerly jumped on it, but I didn't expect much from it. The Cirrus Wave Styler promises volume in your hair within a few seconds and also without electricity. Yeah right, something that I haven't been able to do for years would now be done in no time. As if I had landed in some kind of Tel Sell commercial, I heard myself scream ‘OMG, this is amazing!’ after the first attempt. With the push of a button, this styler creates volume in your hair. I suddenly have a whole drawer free in the bathroom, what a party.
