Why mothers can never be sick

Mothers can never be sick, period. I actually can't remember my mother ever being sick in bed with the flu, because there simply wasn't time for that. At least, that's what I'm realizing now. Last week, Otis came home with a nasty cough from daycare, and two days later I was sniffling and coughing around the house like some kind of zombie. ‘Back in the day’ (as in: before motherhood), I would have just laid down for half an hour to regain some energy or simply canceled some appointments. But with such a little one in the house, that's just not an option. So after three days of pushing through, my body finally gave in on Saturday, and with every cough, I felt such a stab in my head that I was forced to take a day off. All mothers should regularly allow themselves a mini-mommy break to recharge.

If there's a dish with truffle on a menu, my choice is made pretty quickly. I think there are only truffle haters and truffle lovers, and nothing in between: either you love it or you hate it. Fortunately, I found my truffle partner in crime in Jon, and he didn't have to think long when I asked if he wanted to join me for the truffle launch at restaurant 5&33. We had already tasted the delicious truffle pasta once, but during this edition, we were surprised with a very special truffle dessert. Tip for an exciting Christmas dinner dessert: a white chocolate/raspberry tart with some fresh truffle.

‘When I grow up, I want to be Hadewych Mini’s,’ I headlined last week on my Stories. And even if Hadewych weren't a good friend, I would still have written this, because man oh man, her show ‘Minis Plus’ is fantastic. She shows that she is not only a fantastic actress but also an excellent singer, comedian (with super recognizable and hilarious scenes about parenthood), dancer, and also a bassist. If you ever get the chance: go see this, dear people, you are guaranteed an evening full of top entertainment.

The strange thing about shooting a movie or series is that you often only see the entire cast at the premiere. With a bit of bad luck, you're in a storyline where one other actor is involved, and the rest has ‘nothing to do’ with your character. The days when you do get to be on set with all the fellow actors feel like a kind of school party. For the film ‘What is love then,’ we got to play in a scene last week with almost the entire cast, which caused a lot of laughter on set. Hopefully, the scene turned out well, but we have to wait another year for the final result... Better be worth it!
