Holy little stick
‘Siem, what is this again? Just because I bought a house doesn’t mean I have to bite on a stick…’ The reaction of my girlfriend who was standing there with her brand new house key in her hand. The umpteenth person in my circle who has bought a house. The little gift I brought to her has now become a tradition. Not Mr. Clean or a bottle of bleach (hello OCD), but a piece of wood to freshen things up. Holy wood to be precise. Yes, it exists. Call me crazy, but I love participating in this ancient South American tradition. Burning Palo Santo is used to drive away negative energy from your home, so it’s ideal when you find yourself in a strange new house with your familiar belongings. Additionally, the scent is calming. And actually, I still love to swing the little stick around my own living room, just because it smells so nice. Are you lying on the yoga mat tonight and wondering which incense stick is being waved? There’s a good chance it’s Palo Santo.
