Forget the chihuahua

These dogs are the favorites of the celebs (and of us)

While I type, she lies at my feet. Our sweet labradoodle. Not taken after a vacation in Spain where we found her in an intensely neglected state and couldn't do anything but take her back to the Netherlands. Spent months getting the papers and vaccinations in order. Did wait months for the menstruation and conception and searched for the best breeder for months. And oh yes, also had to go through weeks of vetting to show the breeder that we are a labradoodle-worthy family. In short, I am guilty of this trend. The one of the designer dog.

Well, that's actually a marriage between the 2.55 from Chanel and the Kelly from Hermès. Let those two breed a baby and what comes out would be the bag equivalent of the designer dog. We want something special. Something exclusive. Something that has been created especially for us. A breed, however pure, would be too simple. Too known. Too little authentic. And so we search for the perfect DNA dance. A bit of the pug with a hint of beagle. That will be the puggle (because pug in English is pugg). Or what do you think of the maltipoo? A cocktail of the Maltese and the poodle, yes.

Rihanna, Blake and Carmen have the same

The maltipoo is a star magnet. Rihanna has one, just like Blake Lively and Carmen Electra. Small and handy and cuddly, but not as fragile and, excusez, a bit pretentious as the chihuahua. With this, your man can also go out on the street without putting a bag over his head. Paris Hilton has a puggle alongside her chihuahua. More about Paris Hilton and her dog empire later, much, much more.

How much does it cost?

A bit of designer dog starts at 1000 euros, but 3000 euros is also very common. The funny rule is: the smaller the dog, the higher the price.

And I thus

I have also completely fallen for the labradoodle. I can argue it (the intelligence of the poodle and the love and loyalty of the labrador make it the perfect family dog), but that doesn't mean that the abandoned dog from Romania wouldn't meet those requirements. I personally didn't want to take the risk because I have a child with a manual, but in other cases, I would still browse on dutchpuppy.nl. Because all nice and well, the hybrid dogs or the designer dogs, in the end, it's a mix. Just like, exactly: the little trash can.
