Evers counts down

Guys, some things should never change. The eight o'clock news should always stay at eight, the entry of St Nicholas and waking up with Evers. But things change anyway. After this week, Evers no longer gets up, but sleeps out. And we don't begrudge him it, because hell, go figure: getting out of bed at four o'clock every day for twenty years. Presenting a live programme for four hours every day. I can understand that at some point you get fed up with that. But this week already starts with a veil of grey because how much we will MISS him.

1. That smile

That intensely riveting laugh. That you are in a traffic jam and are just sure that your neighbour from the other lane is also listening to Evers because you are laughing at the same time.

2. The bond we have

But Edwin, we just know you. Really know you. We hear you more than our own fathers or brothers. You can join us for Christmas in no time.

3. Your headings

Never mind the verrückte halbe Stunde, you always capture our feelings so well. When you say ‘connecting at the back’, suddenly that traffic jam is not so bad.

4. Dear Marianne

I am not often in the car at kart to ten anymore, but when I was on Friday morning, it was an intensely happy moment. As I write this, I think about how stopping you feels like having your bag stolen. Suddenly you think: oh dear, that was in there too. And that. And that. All irreplaceable things. Like Dear Marianne. I can't handle it. We all can't. Maybe you could release a compilation CD with all the Dear Marianannes. Or a podcast. Or an audiobook. Something.

5. Niels and Rick

I am somewhere so glad they are stopping too. It would never have been the same. But I will also miss them SO much. And how sweet was it that they were so upset during the first week when you told them you were quitting?

6. Your opinion

Because you have those, but the nuance was always there. You left everyone in their right mind.

7. VVD

That you also always came out so openly that you voted VVD. As Adeline next to me remarks: I believe Evers is the only famous patriot who votes VVD and whom everyone likes.

8. Hardenberg

How normal you always did and stayed and at the same time (as Saturday in the AD) also made no bones about the fact that you have a swimming pool and drive three cars. Not at the same time. Then you really would be superman.

And now... So now I wish you so incredibly the nicest woman in the country, long evenings, raging nights and a thousand hours of sleep. Maybe I'll join you, because getting up without you... no big deal.
