Everything you want to know about the Oscars 2018

A very good Monday morning. It is the day after. We skipped a night to report on the Oscars 2018. And the Oscar statue turns out to be the perfect man and this is the big winner.
Warry Beatty and Faye Dunaway, will it work this year to name the right name or will there be a repeat of last year? At the ninetieth Academy Awards, you saw the films of the past eighty-nine years and the Time’s Up movement was also present. Jimmy Kimmel was back as host and did it as only he can: serious and brilliant, but hilarious. That was of course not all, because this happened in L.A. while you were still snoozing.
About Jimmy Kimmel
Jimmy was allowed to return as host, even after the biggest mistake in Oscar history ever. That was also the first thing he said in his opening speech: “This year, when you hear your name called, don’t get up right away.”

Of course, Jimmy referred to the Time’s Up movement. According to him, the Oscar statue would be ‘the perfect man’, because ‘he keeps his hands where you can see them’. And he pointed out how naive Hollywood is towards women, because: “We made a movie called ‘What Women Want’ and it had Mel Gibson in it”.
Because the Oscars are ‘the longest show ever’, Jimmy had another surprise for the winners. The winner with the shortest speech received a jetski as a gift. And a trip to Lake Havasu. And yes, Jimmy timed it himself. With a stopwatch.
Of course, frenemy Matt Damon was also mentioned: “Sorry Matt Damon, time was up.”
About the show
- Fun detail, at the award show you saw films that previously won an Oscar and they were also presented by the winners.
- Music was important last night, because all the songs that received a nomination for ‘Original Song’ were sung live. Mary J. Blige sang ‘Mighty River’ from Mudbound and that performance you just have to watch again. So. Bizarre. Good. Just like ‘Stand Up’ by the way.
- The award for ‘funniest opening’ this year does not go to Jimmy, but to Allison Janney, who started her speech with “I did it all by myself”. Brilliant.
- To further emphasize the Time’s Up movement, Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph wondered: ‘Aren’t the Oscars too black?”, to which their answer was: “Don’t worry, there will be plenty of white people after us.”.

- Jimmy also exuberantly thanked the cinema-goer this year. Imagine sitting in the cinema and getting shot at with a hotdog machine by Margot Robbie, Ansel Elgort, Lupita Nyongo, Emily Blunt, and Gal Gadot. Hello, I would seriously need resuscitation there.
- Time for the most important award of the evening. Best Motion Picture with a do-over for Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. Bet this particular card has been checked ten times this year?
- And the winner is… The Shape of Water. So not Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, where I actually had my money on. But Warren and Faye, hats off. Got it right this year in one go and that is an achievement in itself.
I can’t wait until next year.
Drumroll, because these are the main winners of the Oscars 2018…
