Hold your horses: The Handmaid’s Tale is getting a sequel

Did you also fall into a bit of a hole when you finished The Handmaid’s Tale? We did. Our morning coffee went hand in hand with dissecting every detail of the night before. And if someone wasn’t quite caught up with the series, they would run away quickly to avoid any spoilers. But then it was over. Until now…

Writer Margaret Atwood took a little while to get back to us. Sure, we still have a sequel to look forward to from Offred and her guard, but that was it. Only Atwood decided to write again, fifteen years later. The Testaments takes place again in Gilead, but has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the series we see on Netflix. What Margaret Atwood herself says about it? ’Dear readers: everything you have ever asked me about Gilead and what really goes on there, forms the inspiration for this new book. Well, almost everything! The other source of inspiration is the world we live in now.“

The world we live in now, the world where people saw quite a few parallels with The Handmaid’s Tale. Aha, aha. We think, but we still have to wait a bit, because on September 10, the book will be in stores. Now let’s hope that a director throws themselves at Margaret’s feet. So we don’t have to wait that long.

P.S.: Still not started with The Handmaid’s Tale? This is why you want it now.
