Hoppa: these traits lead to a higher salary
If you're ready for a dose of extra monthly euros in your bank account: you can do something about it.
Of course, you can ask for a raise. It can be a bit awkward to have a conversation about money with your boss, because you inherently don't agree. You want to earn as much as possible per month, your boss wants to pay you as little as possible per month. Yet it turns out that how much you earn per month is entirely up to you. Not your age, not your career choice, not your education. It has everything to do with your personality. And you can always change your own behavior and traits, hooray!
Here we go. Tip number one. Therefore, be present. Because, as it turns out, the more assertive you are, the more you get paid. This means: often opening your mouth at work and regularly giving your opinion about the plants on the table or the peanut butter at lunch. Make yourself heard. Make yourself seen. Talk to your boss, not just your closest colleagues. Be there. Sit down at your manager's desk. And don't work from home too often, even if it's sometimes very easy.
That assertiveness is not just about being bold. No. Because socially adept people often earn more as well. This is because social birds dare to make contact with their boss AND their entire team. Tips two and three: they not only say what they think, but they also have spontaneous and personal conversations with their managers. Additionally, they fit well within the group. Maintaining a pleasant bond with colleagues is also important for the atmosphere at work. You can complete your tasks perfectly; if you can't easily collaborate with anyone, it can still prevent you from getting a promotion . Not feeling it? You can quickly build a better bond with your colleagues if you see them outside of work. Even if it seems boring to go out to eat with them: just do it. Bet that it will turn out to be quite enjoyable?
Moreover, honest people are more likely to get a raise. And by honesty, we also mean setting boundaries. If you say in time that you won't be able to work that one Saturday night, it's better for everyone to know that in advance. Much nicer than promising to do it, but then not getting it done. Or if you find a certain task very boring: just say it. Otherwise, you'll end up delivering half-baked work. Honesty pays off. There you have tip number 4.
Quick check for everyone who thinks in terms like ’time is money’ and therefore also thinks ‘no way, I'm not going to read this entire text sentence by sentence’: pay attention to this if you want a raise:
- Make yourself heard, be assertive, make yourself seen
- Talk to your boss daily – even if it's about the weather
- Invest in the work atmosphere: arrange to meet with your colleagues outside of work to build a bond
- Honestly communicate your boundaries and say in time if something isn't working out or if you find a project boring
Can you already see that Chanel bag you can buy with your extra euros? Very good.
