How many kilos do you gain in the winter months

It's almost the season of the big sweaters, so don't worry about that extra kilo. Or, well, about those extra few kilos.

Because this warm autumn will soon make way for a chilly winter. The only thing that helps against that? Comfort food. You couldn't care less, that bikini is just lamenting away in the closet. We also gain more weight in winter than in summer. And that's not all. Don't think that it stays at a meager kilo. On average, we gain no less than 2 to 3 kilos in this harsh season. On average.

It's mainly due to the weather. It's colder, so your body has to work harder to stay warm. That requires more energy – more food, then. You also get hungrier, and you especially crave pasta, potatoes, or other carbohydrates. You can't help it; it's in your nature. You just have a greater need for something fatty. Something sweet. Something that fills you up. In summer, it's too hot for that, and you eat a leaf of lettuce with sweat on your forehead with pain and effort.

By the way, it doesn't happen in one day, you know, gaining weight. To gain a kilo, you would have to eat quite a lot within 24 hours. You would have to eat no less than 7000 calories on top of the normally recommended 2000 calories per day. That's almost impossible, unless you're into competitions of gobbling Big Macs and swallowing frikandellen with whipped cream. Oh well, at least I'm eating tonight without guilt. that block of chocolate after dinner. It's by no means 7000 calories, right?
