Me and my Twingo

There are a lot of things that tell a lot about you. For example, I used to always scan the bookshelves and CD collection of my early loves. Then followed an inspection of the fridge and the drink supply. Everything tells something about the owner. With women, the bag and its contents are also interesting research material, but if you really want to know something about someone, ask if you can peek at her car. Because that, dear friends, is where the adventure lies. Hence this new column. About women and cars. And I'll kick it off myself.

A Twingo. A little gem.

“Somehow I expected something bigger from you. More people say that because I have children, a man, and a dog. But the time of strollers and buggies is over and besides, we also have a family car. Although I must say that we find my Renault Twingo so cozy that on weekends when we go out, we still take my little car. Roof open, music over the Bose speakers, and go.

Why did you choose this car?

“Love at first sight. I've been working for Renault for a long time and have had almost all types under my butt, but the Twingo was my first love and remains so. She (it's a girl) is lovable, fast, smooth, has a small turning circle, is five-door, and has the highest swing factor of all the cars I've ever driven. Really, in this car, everyone lets you go first.”

Is this a special type?

“Yes, say the word ‘limited’ and I must and will have it. There are only 200 of this Twingo. It's called La Parisienne, has a roll roof (which is really divine in this weather), an automatic, and the check pattern you see on the doors, the roof, and the seat covers is a reference to the upholstery of the Renault 4 La Parisienne of yore. Also an old love of mine, by the way. And then the color. Vert Pistache.”

How many kilometers do you consume on average?

“I commute (terrible word by the way) from Haarlem to Amsterdam so that's not too bad. But it can just happen that I ‘just’ drive to Paris for a shoot. In her first three weeks, Twiggy (that's what I call my Twingo) has already clocked 3000 kilometers and has been to Paris, Rotterdam, Harderwijk, and Haarlem.”

And something in me says she drives cheaply.

“I laugh my head off at the pump. As if I'm filling up my moped tank. It's never more than 35 euros. Now I don't want to be unkind about my previous car, but that one was a lot thirstier.”

How much does it cost?

“You already drive in a Renault Twingo from then €11,790, but you can also take out a private lease Then you already have a Twingo at your door from €179 per month. You spend that laughingly on Ubers. And that includes road tax and maintenance.
