Move over chia seeds
This is the new superfood
Two years ago, my kitchen cabinets were filled with superfoods: large glass jars filled with matcha powder, chia seeds, flax seeds, and all the other healthy powders and seeds you can think of. But then I got pregnant and suddenly couldn't stand the sight of any super seeds. Now the reporting on all these products is also quite fickle: some swear by them and feel a lot healthier, but there are also plenty of scientists who raise questions about that birdseed and those overpriced exotic products like goji berries and wheatgrass powder.
And just when I started to get a bit over the superfood hype, my timeline suddenly flooded with ‘blue posts’: blue breakfast bowls, smoothies, and even blue bread spread (unicorn spread, how cute does that sound!). Now it looks so chemical that the enamel on my teeth spontaneously jumps off, but this stuff turns out to be extremely healthy.
Meet the latest superfood ‘Blue Majik’. It is an extract of spirulina and is rich in vitamin E, iron (22 times more than in spinach), and antioxidants (6 times more than in blueberries). The blue color comes from the protein C-phycocyanin, which also contains a lot of antioxidants. Being hype-sensitive as I am, the next morning I sit with my friend Evelyne at The Cold Pressed Juicery for our own shake with Blue Majik. The pure taste apparently is not to be handled, so they are prepared with delicious sweet fruit. We are addicted (I do wonder if we would have been just as big fans if the powder was green). In the meantime, I treat myself to such a cozy blue shake after every workout, but now that I exercise two to three times a week, it does start to add up, so I bought some of that magical powder online to get started at home. I know, yet another glass jar, but this superfood seems to really work. Plus, I immediately have everything at home for Otis’ birthday to make the coolest blue drinks, cupcakes, and unicorn spreads. For anyone who also wants to get started at home; here’s a cozy recipe to try out the Blue Majik:
Here's how to make the Rainbow Shake. You will need:
- 1 teaspoon E3Live Blue Majik Powder (available online or at health food stores)
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup pineapple, chopped
- 1/4 cup soaked cashews
