Netflix really needs to stop this

Because your 2018 must have been as busy as ours and you might have missed a bit: this is one of our top scorers of the year. Just to dive in a little more.

I never thought I would say anything unkind about and against Netflix, but that moment has indeed come. And it is today. There is something that irritates me immensely and that they really need to stop. Immediately.

When you are so nicely tempted to catch another episode and you are counting down the seconds with your friends from Netflix to devour The Affair further, it goes wrong. Then a text box appears in the bottom right corner with a synopsis of the episode. And there, dear friends, I want to talk to you about that.

1. Why?

Who thinks we need a summary of the episode when you are on the verge of watching it? Has anyone ever heard of the phenomenon spoiler? Well then.

2. The level

Then the text itself. It is written by a 10-year-old or by someone who had a stack of laundry to fold and quickly got it over with. What gets an hour to be told in the episode by the best actors, with the best direction and most impressive music is now crammed into four sentences. Noah is feeling hopeless and Helen is arguing with Vik. Alison decides to confront and talks to Luisa. Something like that. Really, in the past, there were summaries of Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden on Teletext (which I secretly read when I missed an episode) and I tell you: that was Mulischian compared to the level of these texts.

3. Give me a trailer

Yes yes yes, that takes a bit more time than just cobbling together a lame text, but it does justice to the series or the movie. A good trailer (did you know there are people in Hollywood who only edit trailers? And that they sometimes even use scenes that are not in the movie at all? Everything to lure you to the cinema), well, Netflix should also hire a trailer director who watches the series and captures them in an engaging short representation where we can assess actors, music, and direction. If you are looking for someone: I can.

These are the best Netflix series in October. And this is what I wanted to say about season 3 of The Affair.
