I want to move to Iceland
Painful but true: if your boy and you are in the same profession, he probably earns more. If a man in the Netherlands earns 1 euro per hour, a woman in the same position earns 93 euro cents. Quite frustratingly unfair for a ‘equal’ country, right? Well, the truth.
Because men often end up in higher positions and work full-time more often, the average wage gap is even larger: hello 16.1 percent. Something I haven't been able to digest for years and that makes my feminist heart a bit grumble. But now. TIME FOR JUSTICE. Iceland has a first and how. They are the very first country in the world where employers are required from this week to pay men and women the same for the same work. Specifically, this means that companies must be able to prove that they offer equal pay for equal work regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, and nationality. They aim to close the wage gap completely by 2022. That’s it. I'm packing my bags, bye bye!
P.S.: Just read this if Iceland is also on your bucket list...
P.P.S.: I just read that being stubborn also works for a higher salary, in case Iceland isn't really your thing.
